Nursing is a highly regarded profession with high standards of honesty and ethics amongst various other professions. For quiet sometime, it had been a career for females only but today nursing is a profitable career option for both genders. With the increasing demands for nurses, more and more men are entering the nursing field and it had turned a female dominated profession only and is expected to become gender free in the coming years.

This study explores the reasons on why men choose nursing. The study focuses on men taking up nursing since it is a female dominated profession. but female nursing students were included in the study population to know their opinions regarding the increasing number of men entering nursing. The study involved 309 male nursing students and 100 female nursing students of different schools from first year to fourth year levels. Two sets of questionnaires were prepared, one for male respondents and one for the female. Nursing schools in Iligan City were visited by the researchers and the respondents were chosen randomly and were given a questionnaire each.

The apparent increase of men entering the nursing field can be explained by their desire for further earning and job security. Also, ability to help others and parental advice are factors that influence the choice of male entering nursing. A large number of the male respondents had not chosen nursing as their first course but with the benefits nursing profession may offer, many of them decided to enter nursing still if given a second chance.
