Mar 24 2024

In celebration of Women's Month, the National Service Training Program-Civic Welfare Training Service (NSTP-CWTS) Environmental Cluster, under the leadership of Mr. Jaypee Yongco, spearheaded a significant environmental initiative entitled Kababaihan ug Kinaiyahan: Mangrove Reforestation Activity on Bayug Island, located in Brgy. Hinaplanon, Iligan City, on March 24, 2024.

This event not only celebrated women's contributions to environmental conservation but also aimed to restore and protect the marine ecosystem through the collaborative efforts of both young men and women of the NSTP-CWTS.

The role of women in the conservation of the marine ecosystem was highlighted during the event, emphasizing their crucial involvement in nurturing and preserving our natural resources. The young women participants actively engaged in various activities such as harvesting propagules, replanting mangroves, and planting new mangrove saplings along the coastal areas of Bayug Island.

The objectives of the Kababaihan ug Kinaiyahan: Mangrove Reforestation Activity were multifaceted and aimed to achieve the following:

  1. Environmental Conservation: To contribute to the restoration and preservation of the marine ecosystem by planting mangroves, which serve as vital habitats for various marine species and help protect coastal areas from erosion.
  2. Community Engagement: To foster a sense of environmental responsibility and community involvement among the participants, encouraging them to take an active role in safeguarding the environment for future generations.
  3. Gender Equality: To recognize and celebrate the significant contributions of women in environmental conservation and empower them to take on leadership roles in sustainable development initiatives.

By actively participating in activities like mangrove reforestation, the community not only contributes to the conservation of the marine ecosystem but also strengthens their bond with nature, promoting a sustainable and eco-friendly way of life.

The Kababaihan ug Kinaiyahan: Mangrove Reforestation Activity serves as an example of how collective action and gender-inclusive initiatives can positively impact the environment and society as a whole.
